The Root of Conflict and How to Overcome Controversy

CONFLICT, CONTROVERSY, AND COMBAT

Conflict, controversy, and combat are not new issues to brace the face of humanity. For centuries there have been wars and rumors of wars that have plagued the planet and grieved the hearts of man. We have seen intelligent men try to render solutions and produce strategies to dismantle advances of the enemy. Yet, so often our response to a conflict is solely focused on the outer advances of the enemy and does not acknowledge the internal battle of the heart. I’d propose that one of the greatest reasons for conflict and controversy is not an external issue in society, but rather an internal issue of the heart.

James 4:1 says, “What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you?” The truth is, conflict is deeply rooted in the internal issues of our day; filled with questions of identity and uncertainty in who we are.

I had the privilege of sitting down for a conversation with Jamie Winship . For decades Jamie has worked to bring peaceful solutions to some of the world's most challenging conflicts based on teaching individuals to live fearlessly in their true identity. From working in the educational system with troubled students to pacifying Islamic terrorist groups, Jamie has been a pioneer of peace and cultural catalyst in a world in desperate need of understanding their true identity.

ACTIVATING YOUR HEAVENLY ADVANTAGE

In my conversation with Jamie I was continually reminded of the truth that the Lord is not confined to our boxes of understanding or limited by our personal ability. Rather, He is eager to break the boxes of structured belief and infiltrate every area of our lives with solutions from Heaven and wisdom beyond our age. Get this, we have the mind of Christ, which means we think like God; we are His divine think tank — we are sanctified solutionaries! (1 Corinthians 2:6-16) . The mind of Christ is your X-factor, your secret weapon…but to activate your heavenly advantage you must lose the compliant, religious rule keeper mindset so you can journey out into the world of mystery, miracles, and divine missions. We have become predictable, boring, vanilla, uninspired people. Yet our Founder is a radical fore-thinking activist, who in three short years, altered the course of human history. Jesus transformed the way the world viewed God, money, nature, religion and kingdom life, etc. Life with the Lord is full of endless possibilities. Are you seeking them out? Are you inviting the Lord into every area of your life?

I pray that as you watch this episode of Cultural Catalysts you are filled with hope for the areas of your life that have felt too far gone and that the Lord would begin to share strategies for every area of your life.

Many of us have been misled into thinking that to love ourselves is a form of selfishness. Yet, what does Scripture really say? 'Love your neighbor as yourself'—this commandment from the Bible isn't just an instruction to love others but a divine mandate that ties our ability to love others to how much we cherish and accept ourselves. As we unpack this, let’s redefine what it truly means to love ourselves in the light of God's word, discovering how this self-love is not selfish but is actually the cornerstone of genuine relationships.

In a world more connected than ever through the internet and social media, the deep, authentic connection we all yearn for has become increasingly elusive. Created in God’s image, we instinctively desire to be known, loved, and belong, yet so many of us wrestle with invisible barriers that keep us isolated. What if the secret to breaking through these barriers lies not in more connections but in deeper, more meaningful ones with both God and others? How can we identify and overcome what prevents us from experiencing true connection in our daily lives?

In early December, I began seeking a prophetic word from the Lord for 2024. He told me, "I am not going to give you a word for 2024. Instead, I am going to give you a word for the Body of Christ for a new era." He explained that January 2024 would be a half-time; marking the closure of an era and the beginning of a new one. This period would be characterized by immense transition, culminating in the discipling of nations. A supernatural metamorphosis, metaphorically akin to a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly, would occur right before our eyes.
