Why Your Fight Against the Enemy Matters

FINDING YOUR FIGHT

Have you ever had someone walk through your door unannounced? It can feel invasive, breach trust, or even rob your peace. This is what a spiritual battle can feel like; a constant uncertainty that your worst nightmare is right around the corner about to barge in the front door and make themselves at home. I know this feeling well! I lived through what felt like a never-ending season of pure horror. A constant fear plagued me as I awaited an unannounced demonic visitation to walk through the front door.

The spiritual realm is very real. Both angels and demons are active, whether we can see them with our physical eye or not. The first time I had a demonic visitation I was in my early twenties. I had struggled with crippling fear and anxiety for years that soon progressed into what felt like a real-life horror movie unfolding right before my eyes. I had been taught that Christians could not be demonized. What I didn’t know is this one belief deactivated my spiritual weapons and granted free access to the demonic realm to make my home a horror. I was crippled in fear and paralyzed in powerlessness; defenseless to the attacks of the enemy - which left me warring against my own flesh.

The truth is when you war against your own flesh in a battle against powers of darkness, you intensify a fight without any way to win. The enemy is deceiving; he came to steal, kill, and destroy. He can be really good at convincing you he is stronger than the lock on your door. However, the truth is unless you leave a door wide open somewhere, the enemy does not have an all-access pass in the home of a believer. What I am getting at is the life of a believer is possessed by the spirit of God. His spirit takes up the territory of our life without leaving an inch for the enemy to possess. However, this does not keep the enemy from waging war and oppressing a believer.

In this week’s video blog I talk more about how to win in spiritual warfare.

  In a nutshell:

  • I experienced demonic visitations in a season of my life.
  • I was told Christians can be mentally ill but they can’t be demonized.
  • The truth is Christians cannot be possessed but they can be oppressed by the devil.
  • It is important to check if you have left doors open for the enemy to walk into.
  • It is normal in spiritual warfare for the enemy to resist you as you take new territory.
  • If you retreat in fear from the promises of God, you can end up oppressed.
  • If we choose to remain bitter, we leave room for oppression in our life.
  • The enemy disguises himself in our thoughts.
  • It is vital to take our thoughts captive when we are battling spiritual warfare.

KEEPING THE ENEMY OUT FOR GOOD

I’d propose that if you are in a spiritual battle against the enemy it is vital to double-check your “doors.” The enemy might knock but unless the door is answered he has no way in. There are three ways a door can remain open:

However, if you look at this list, check it off, and clean it up, and yet still experience spiritual warfare
you might just be doing something exactly right. Yes, exactly right! Spiritual warfare is common in the life of a believer. The challenge is when a royal co-heir in Christ begins taking ground in their calling, the enemy trembles at the thought of what they will accomplish. Let me be clear, it is critical that you invite the Holy Spirit into helping you identify the reasoning of the attack. If we misdiagnose, we mistreat and can lose in the fight against the enemy.

As a believer, I urge you to be aware of the attacks of the enemy but not terrified of them. Remember, you are a co-heir in Christ, possessed by God and protected by a heavenly army. If you have weighed out the likelihood of hidden sin, unforgiveness, and false belief systems then I encourage you to receive spiritual warfare as a compliment of the calling on your life. Allow the battle to be a catalyst into your promised land and confidence in your divine destiny. If the battle begins to feel long I encourage you to continually keep the promises of God at the forefront of your mind; don’t lose sight of what He has you, or of the vision for what He has said.

My prayer for you this week is that you would be filled with the peace of God as you feel His protection surround you. I pray that you would be confident in the faithfulness of God in seasons of battle and see His goodness in your life.

My heart goes out to anyone that is battling spiritual warfare and I have so much hope for those waiting for the promises of God to unfold in their lives. What are some ways that you hold to hope in the midst of spiritual warfare? I would love to hear in the comments!

Many of us have been misled into thinking that to love ourselves is a form of selfishness. Yet, what does Scripture really say? 'Love your neighbor as yourself'—this commandment from the Bible isn't just an instruction to love others but a divine mandate that ties our ability to love others to how much we cherish and accept ourselves. As we unpack this, let’s redefine what it truly means to love ourselves in the light of God's word, discovering how this self-love is not selfish but is actually the cornerstone of genuine relationships.

In a world more connected than ever through the internet and social media, the deep, authentic connection we all yearn for has become increasingly elusive. Created in God’s image, we instinctively desire to be known, loved, and belong, yet so many of us wrestle with invisible barriers that keep us isolated. What if the secret to breaking through these barriers lies not in more connections but in deeper, more meaningful ones with both God and others? How can we identify and overcome what prevents us from experiencing true connection in our daily lives?

In early December, I began seeking a prophetic word from the Lord for 2024. He told me, "I am not going to give you a word for 2024. Instead, I am going to give you a word for the Body of Christ for a new era." He explained that January 2024 would be a half-time; marking the closure of an era and the beginning of a new one. This period would be characterized by immense transition, culminating in the discipling of nations. A supernatural metamorphosis, metaphorically akin to a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly, would occur right before our eyes.
